PackBot is a compact tracked vehicle with two articulated flippers that let it climb rubble and stairs, light enough to be carried in a backpack and driven from a portable controller. First deployed with United States forces in Afghanistan in 2002 and later widely used for bomb disposal, several units were flown to Japan in 2011 and were the first robots to enter reactor buildings at Fukushima Daiichi, mapping radiation and temperature. The design line remains in production under Teledyne FLIR.
