HUBO is 125 cm tall, weighs 56 kg and has 41 degrees of freedom driven by electric motors through harmonic drive gears. It walks using zero moment point based control on an onboard computer and adds voice recognition, independently steerable eyes and hands able to grasp and gesture. Jun Ho Oh's group built it in 2005 as the basis for the later HUBO 2 and DRC-Hubo machines, and copies were supplied to laboratories in the United States for shared humanoid research.
