Mahru-Z was announced by the Cognitive Robotics Center at KIST in February 2010 as the fourth robot of the Mahru family, standing about 1.3 m tall and weighing around 55 kg. It walks with onboard balance control, recognises objects and people in three dimensions and was demonstrated putting fruit into a basket, tidying a table, loading a microwave and pressing appliance controls. The same laboratory built the Mahru-M mobile variant and used the family to study whole body imitation of motion captured from a human performer.
