The ERS-110 walked on four legs driven by small geared servo actuators and carried a colour camera, microphones and touch sensors in a moulded plastic body. Onboard software gave it moods, reflexes and a learning behaviour system, so owners interacted with it instead of programming paths. Sony offered the first batch in Japan in June 1999 at about 250,000 yen and the initial three thousand units sold within minutes, making AIBO the first mass market legged robot.
