ARMAR-III pairs a human like torso, head, arms and five fingered hands with a holonomic wheeled platform, giving 43 degrees of freedom in total. Its head carries stereo cameras with foveated vision, microphones and inertial sensing, while the arms combine position, velocity and force torque sensing for compliant manipulation. Two units, built in 2006 and 2008, anchored years of work in the German collaborative research centre on humanoid robots, loading dishwashers, fetching drinks and learning tasks from human demonstration.
