Kenshiro is 158 cm tall and weighs 50 kg, with proportions taken from the statistical average of a twelve year old Japanese boy. Instead of simple rotary joints it uses roughly 160 artificial muscles built from motors, tendons and pulleys, including 25 per leg, 76 in the torso and 22 in the neck, pulling on a rib cage and spine shaped like human bones. The JSK laboratory uses it to study how muscle redundancy, spinal flexibility and joint structure shape human movement.
