The Pioneer 3-DX is a red aluminium body on two drive wheels with a rear caster, turning in place with a zero turn radius. A front array of eight sonar transducers is standard, with optional rear sonar, laser scanner, gripper and cameras, and up to three hot swappable batteries give eight to ten hours of running. It is programmed through the ARIA software library and later community drivers, and it descends from the ActivMedia Pioneer robots of the 1990s. Production has ended but many units remain in teaching labs.
