AstroAnt was developed by the Space Exploration Initiative at the MIT Media Lab as a swarm scale inspection robot that uses magnetic wheels to cling to metal surfaces. Riding on top of the Lunar Outpost MAPP rover, it was to monitor radiator temperatures and demonstrate cooperative robotics on the Moon. It launched on the IM-2 mission in February 2025 but remained with MAPP inside the toppled Athena lander.
