The Cool Robot is a box of solar panels on four independently driven wheels, sized so that low angle polar sunlight striking its vertical sides keeps it moving all day without fuel. Dartmouth engineers demonstrated it at Summit Camp in Greenland, where it towed instrument sleds on long autonomous runs, and the design has been proposed for Antarctic science support. Its appeal is cheap, emission free logistics for sampling programmes that would otherwise need crewed traverse vehicles.
