Rainbow Robotics, founded in 2011 out of the KAIST HUBO laboratory, developed the RBQ series as its legged mobile platform line. RBQ-3 has twelve electric joints, onboard balance control and a software development kit, and is offered with camera and lidar options for navigation research and inspection work. The company has since scaled the design up in the larger RBQ-10 and has worked with Hyundai Rotem on a multi-legged robot for defence use.
