RoBoHoN is 19.5 centimetres tall and weighs about 390 grams, with small servo motors in its legs, arms and head so it can stand, walk, sit and gesture. It is a genuine phone: it takes calls, runs apps and, on the original model, projects images from a lens in its forehead. Interaction is by voice through a cloud assistant, and it recognises faces to greet its owner. Sharp launched it in Japan in May 2016 at a premium price and has since released cheaper and revised models, with units also used in hotel lobbies and shop displays.
Of note
- Launched in Japan in May 2016 as a walking robot that is also a certified mobile phone
- Original model included a forehead projector for displaying images
- Used in Japanese hotel lobbies and retail displays as well as sold to consumers
