TORO is 1.74 m tall, weighs 76.4 kg and has 25 torque controlled joints plus two position controlled ones, built from DLR lightweight robot drive units with integrated torque sensing. Force and torque sensors in the feet, a torso inertial unit and a stereo camera head feed whole body controllers based on passivity and capture point ideas rather than position tracking. DLR developed it from an earlier biped between 2010 and 2014 and has used it for multi contact balancing, walking on uneven ground and physical human robot interaction studies.
