Mini Cheetah uses twelve identical low cost modular actuators derived from drone motors, which makes it cheap to build and quick to repair after hard falls. Its controllers came from the Cheetah 3 line and were later replaced in research work by learned policies, and it trots at about 2.45 metres per second and recovers from being kicked. MIT built a small fleet and lent units to other universities, and the design was widely copied, including by commercial makers in China.
