Vyommitra has a head, torso and arms but no legs, built largely from aluminium alloy to survive launch loads and the spacecraft environment. It is designed to read and operate control panels, monitor cabin parameters such as pressure, manage life support functions and report by voice in Hindi and English while recognising the crew it works with. ISRO unveiled it in January 2020 at a human spaceflight symposium in Bengaluru, with flight planned on uncrewed Gaganyaan missions before crewed flights begin.
